The project title is a word in Sanskrit language which brings the meaning Continuance. The theme of this show was chosen to showcase locally trained Indian Classical musicians, from both South Indian Carnatic music and North Indian Hindustani music who have gone through formal training They are Malaysian music graduates who have propagated the art form through various initiatives. This is the first time ever such an endeavor has taken place to unite all of them together towards both a LIVE and a later premiere online presentation.
This project is a music presentation which will be showcasing a FULLY MALAYSIAN line up of locally trained musicians who have emerged over the years top in their respective fields.
Indian Classical music in records historically has been around for more than 5000 years. The preservation of this art form handed down generation after generation was through a strict teacher-student system and keeping to the frame work. As a result, the renditions and presentation have often been featuring these familiar traditional works.
Often, due to the close music connectivity between Malaysia and India, we have been regarded as a ‘distant’ cousin in the performing music scene. This endeavor hopes to highlight Malaysian Indian musicians as individuals of their own right who have managed to hold the traditional requirements whilst amalgamating with the multi-cultural tapestry Malaysia has to offer- making it uniquely Malaysian.
The presentation is a 180-minute show, showcasing both North and South Indian music traditions and will feature 40% of original Malaysian Indian origin composed and arranged works and 60% of original arrangements of well-known pieces.
