Performing Arts & Culture

Early 2021 Faculty of Creative Arts, renamed of Cultural Centre was entrusted by the Senate of the University of Malaya to implement academic programmes in the field of Performing Arts through three core programmes of performing arts studies at Bachelor’s level (with honours), namely drama, music and dance. In addition to offering academic programmes, the faculty continues its function and services for arts and cultural activities, especially those related to traditional arts and culture.

This Festival position is an international and cross boundary (Asia-Pacific) International virtual Traditional Performing Arts Festival for the year 2021 which is marked by creativity and innovation concept. It’s a collaborative effort between academia practices (i.e. universities, academicians and tertiary-level students) and young activist in the performing art (i.e. playwrights, dramatists, critics, etc.) of two countries, and a few guest such as Thailand, Iran, China, United Kingdom, Hong Kong and Singapore. This event is to take place on virtual platforms involving numerous forms of programmes and activities (i.e., webinar, workshop, live performance/recorded shows, etc.). This project will benefit all participating parties by providing a space for theatre movement and an alternative to theatre practice which is crucial for its continued survival, presence, and significance.

Folk Performing Arts

Universiti Malaya’s Faculty of Creative Arts will seek to reinvigorate a popular traditional folklore genre through creative and innovative efforts. The main objectives are to re-introduce and re-energising Southeast Asia’s traditional folklore performance arts in particular. The genre widens the scope and reach of traditional performance arts (theatre, dance and music) among Southeast Asia’s art practitioners and higher-level academia.

This event is supported by Yayasan Hasanah.
